3. Cool off in Katherine Hot Springs

Escape the outback heat by taking a dip in the refreshing waters of the Katherine Hot Springs. Nestled among lush green vegetation, these natural thermal pools offer a relaxing place to unwind. The hot springs are an easy 5 minute drive from the Katherine town centre. We recommend taking a picnic to enjoy or grabbing a takeaway toastie and coffee at Black Russian on your way.


4. Get a glimpse into outback life at Katherine Outback Experience

Owned by Tom Curtain, multiple Golden Guitar winner and horseman extraordinaire, Katherine Outback Experience gives you a glimpse into the NT's unique pastoral history and culture. The live show includes real horse starting, working dog demonstrations, live music and story telling. While the show is the main attraction, there's also horse riding experiences available.

5. Check out the Katherine Museum

Uncover the rich history and heritage of Katherine by paying a visit to the Katherine Museum. The Katherine Museum is a treasure trove of historical artefacts and memorabilia housed in the former World War II regional air terminal. The museum showcases a wide range of collections that provide a rich insight into the region's past.

6. Connect with culture at Top Didj

Learn about the culture of the Jawoyn and Dagoman people through a visit to the Top Didj Cultural Experience. Engage with local Indigenous artists as they share their stories, traditions, and artistic techniques. You can even try your hand at painting and boomerang throwing. 7. Swim and explore Leliyn (Edith Falls)

Just 60 km north of Katherine in you'll find Leliyn (Edith Falls), where you can camp for the night or just visit for the day. Enjoy a dip in the paperbark and pandanus fringed plunge pool, or take the 2.6 km return walk to the upper pools. If you feel like more of a hike, do the 9km return walk to Sweetwater Pool, a tranquil swimming hole which is the finishing point for the iconic Jatbula Trail.


8. Day trip to Mataranka

Extend your Katherine adventure with a day trip to Mataranka, just 120km south of Katherine in Elsey National Park. Fringed with tropical palm trees, Mataranka is loved for its clear turquoise waters and also being swimmable year round. Fun fact - Mataranka is the location of the Australian classic novel We of the Never-Never.
