Four Days on Bremer Island — No Roads, No Rush

Most people have never heard of Bremer Island.

Sitting 650km east of Darwin in East Arnhem Land, Bremer Island, is one of the most remote and untouched places in Australia. No roads in. A maximum of eight guests at a time. Just white sand beaches, turquoise water, and a coastline shared with four species of nesting sea turtles.

A little background

Bremer Island sits 650km east of Darwin off the Gove Peninsula. The only way in is by air to Nhulunbuy, then a short boat transfer across open water. No roads — barefoot from arrival to departure.

Four of the world's seven sea turtle species nest on its beaches. Dolphins, dugongs, and migratory birds fill the surrounding waters.

Banubanu Beach Retreat sits on the northern tip — an eco-sensitive resort built in partnership with the Yolngu people, limited to eight guests at a time, with the beach as your backyard.

Banubanu Beach Retreat

Banubanu Beach Retreat is not a hotel. It's a small collection of beachfront bungalows sitting directly on the sand, open to the ocean.

Eight guests at a time. Chef-prepared meals using fresh, local produce. A grazing platter and cold drink waiting for you each afternoon & Champagne on arrival.

Most people drive straight through Tennant Creek without stopping. Halfway between Darwin and Alice Springs on the Stuart Highway, it's easy to treat it as a fuel stop and keep moving. That's a mistake — and locals will tell you so. The Barkly region, centred on Tennant Creek, is one of the Northern Territory's most genuinely surprising destinations. Ancient sacred landscapes, a gold rush history that shaped an entire town, world-class stargazing, and a living Aboriginal culture that goes back tens of thousands of years. Travel Gateway is here to make sure you don't miss it.

If there’s one dish that defines Darwin, it’s laksa. Steaming bowls of spicy, coconut-based broth filled with noodles, seafood or chicken, and topped with fresh herbs have become a staple of the Top End lifestyle. Locals don’t just eat laksa for lunch or dinner — they eat it for breakfast, too. In fact, Darwin has proudly claimed the title of Australia’s Laksa Capital, and every October the city celebrates with the Darwin International Laksa Festival . This year, Travel Gateway is making it even easier to join the fun with the Ministry of Laksa Package — the ultimate way to taste, sip, and explore Darwin.
