The Red Centre from the eyes of a local

Meet Alli Bitar, an Alice Springs local. Alli moved to Alice in 2002, fell in love with the Red Centre and never left. She now spends her spare time exploring the region with her young family.

"The Red Centre has some of the most spectacular landscapes I've ever seen".

Where’s your favourite place to go in the Territory?

Alice Springs and the Red Centre. The town of Alice is surrounded by hills so at dusk you get the most spectacular light hitting the hills.

What is there to do in the Red Centre?

There is so much to do, from wildlife parks to art galleries, bike riding to hiking.

What are the best things to do in the Red Centre?

Check out the Araluen Art Galley - it has the most fabulous Indigenous art. Megafauna Central is also a must do, showcasing the unique megafauna that roamed Central Australia 8 million years ago. And it's free!

What’s the best time of year to visit the Red Centre?

September or October. The weather won't be too cold but also won't be unbearably not.

How long should you spend in the Red Centre?

At least a week to give you enough time to explore the East and West MacDonnell Ranges as well as Alice Springs.

Best places to stay in the Red Centre

The Hilton or Lasseters are great for something flash in Alice Springs, but a hidden gem for a quieter stay is the Vatu Sanctuary. If you're heading out bush, a must is Hale River Homestead.

Things not to miss

Make sure to do an astronomy tour at the Earth Sanctuary. The sky at night is a sight you'd never get to see in a city.

Describe the Red Centre in 3 words
