Our #travelgatewayau competition has now closed and with nearly 5,000 entries, we are excited to share our winners:
Congratulation to Yelena for winning $10,000 and Nathan for winning a $5,000 travel voucher!
Congratulation to @yelenamilosev, our $10,000 winner with a stunning image of a swimmer enjoying the crystal-clear waters of El Questro Gorge in the Kimberley.
Yelena and her boyfriend Matt said the winning image was taken during their favourite walk of the entire trip – the El Questro Gorge Walk - which they described in glowing terms.
“We were awed by the sheer red cliffs and tall palms as we climbed over boulders and swam across the creek in the narrow gorge. The swim under the waterfall at the end of the gorge was the perfect way to cool off and offered spectacular scenery.”
Yelena and Matt’s top tip for people travelling across the NT and Kimberley was to add an additional week to their plans as there is just so much to see and do in the region. They also recommended speaking to locals and other visitors to get valuable advice.
The couple plan to use the $10,000 cash to finish their house renovations, and have earmarked some of the cash for a future getaway.
The $5,000 in travel vouchers winner has been awarded to a Darwin local @nath_lew who submitted an iconic image of friends enjoying a picnic at Fannie Bay.
Nathan described his photo as being taken on a “very typical dry season evening with sunset colours like these common between May and September.”
“A crew of us will often head down for a picnic to the nearest foreshore - Nightcliff or Fannie Bay - with whoever is available at short notice. The more the merrier. There are few better ways to unwind after a week of work than watching the water among good company.”
A Darwin born Territorian has won the People Choice competition for her image Sunset at Kata Tjuta winning a $5,000 travel voucher which she plans to use travelling to the Kimberley.
Mietta’s image won more than 28% of all the Travel Gateway NT News People’s Choice Award votes and was taken at the end of the Valley of the Winds hike through Kata Tjuta, on a cold and overcast all day. Just as the sun was about to dip below the horizon there was a gap in the clouds and Kata Tjuta quickly turned bright red.
Mietta said the colour was “Redder even than Uluru the night before (I swear the picture isn’t edited)!”
Congratulations to our 5 weekly winners for their stunning images.
